Final Product

Balisong Design Final Product

Throughout the process of designing and creating the trainer, I learned that it is a long and tedious process that requires a bit of attention to detail to accomplish. For example, as seen in the upper left hand corner of the drawing it is visible that there were different designs and styles of "blades". The reason behind this is through the design process of trial and error. After creating a single design I realize that it is both the wrong size and shape for the handles so I decided to scrap the idea and start over again. Overall the process of physically creating this was both fun and challenging. If I were to change the product in any way i would make it so that the indentation on the sides of the handles were a little bit bigger to accommodate the pins on the comb.

Personal Project

Balisong Design

For my project I will be designing a functioning balisong comb or trainer. A balisong is a type knife that originated in the Philippines that is mainly illegal in many states worldwide. The basic design of the knife consists of two handles that can fold inwards and outwards to conceal the knife. However these two handles can be manipulated in a way that people can do tricks with it such as spinning it around a finger or throwing it in the air and catching it open. Though it is a rather interesting hobby to have, playing around with a knife, it is still illegal. To counter, people have made balisongs with a blank cut blade, or with a comb at the end, or even a bottle opener. The reason why I personally want to design this is because of the fact that I do practice flipping around these things and I would like to make one for myself. The research that would go into this project would consist of finding accurate dimensions, knowing what parts connect to what, and the size of some pins connecting the handles to the blade.

Key chain

Key chain

A few days ago we created a key chain design on inventor. It was a one day thing so it was not anything special. It was probably to test out the new 3d printer. However, I learned that it is different to design things in 3d than it is to design something in 2d. This is because of the fact that you have to take into consideration the structural integrity of the object as well as the fact that it had 2 sides and that you need to design both sides.

Personally I would not change thee design by much. This is because I intended for the text to be inverted. The only thing that i would change is to make the text a bit bigger to make it more visible.
